Shree Karhateshwar Mandir

 Shree Karhateshwar Devsthan
4-5 kms away from Jaigad Jetty, there is a beautiful serene place a surprise at the end of a road  temple known as the Karhateshwar temple. Many a times you may see Peacock and  rabbits on the way to temple. Karhateshwar Devsthan is situated in the village Nandiwade ,about 40 Km from Ratnagiri and 22 KM from Ganpatipule.Karhateshwar temple is situated near the seashore of Jaigad. Surrounded by greenery and unspoilt nature, this ancient temple draws a lot of visitors to it. , You have to climb down a few steps to reach this typical Konkan style temple of lord Siva, made by SHILAHAR RAJA’s  is made of wood. Two sides of the temple compound, which is few feet high, is guarded by the Arabian Sea. There is a Deep Stambh.
There is nothing architectural miracle about the temple, but it is the atmosphere and the sea view that makes it so pleasant. Go to the back of the temple and go down the 100 plus steep steps little painful but worth going to see Fabulous view of the clean serene beach. The waves hitting the shore on a continuous basis and showering on the land is a treat to watch. You may enjoy a bath though risky, or just sit on the sea side rocks enjoying the splash of waves. Its the sea view that makes this place so pleasant.

There are rumors that if you climb down the steps and taste the sea water, you will find it sweet but we didn't find anything like that ,But There is afresh water spring or water stream originating from the hillside known as GOMUKH(Mouth of the Cow) is a source of fresh sweet water .Its really a miracle  just a few feet away from the sea  you get  sweet water. This spring water is stored in two small tanks for bathing purpose. Even during winter the water is warm. One who takes bath gets fresh and energetic.

This temple is very close to the Jaigad Lighthouse and  other  nearby attraction is JAIGARH FORT. Other important attractions located near the Karhateshwar temple are Anjarle Beach, Ganapatipule Beach, Guhagar Beach, Dhamapur Lake, Marleshwar Temple, Lakshmi Keshav Temple, Mandavi Beach, Gateway of Ratnagiri, Bhatye Beach, Ratnagiri Lighthouse, Sri Kanakaditya Temple, Swayambhu Ganpati Temple, Thibaw Point, Thiba Palace, Gopalgad Hill, Tilak Ali Museum and Devgad Beach.
